The Power of Authenticity

Last January I wrote a blog on being authentically you. I have focused on practicing authenticity this past year. Being authentically you is one of the hardest and most empowering things we can do for ourselves. We are so often focused on making others comfortable while denying our own needs. We quiet our thoughts and emotions to not upset or burden others. In our authenticity, we make ourselves a priority. This can feel selfish at times and those closest to us may not know how to respond. When we are true to our own needs and share our authentic selves we free ourselves of just surviving and start living.

In authenticity, we have more meaningful relationships and a deeper connection to purpose. In my own recovery from codependence, I’m often reminded the most powerful tool I have is my authentic self. It often takes time getting to know who that is and finding yourself worthy to share who you are. Even when it is difficult to share who I am and what I need, I feel most peaceful when I’m true to my authentic self.
