Every Mind Matters

By Teresa Deck, MS, LPC at Green Shoe Foundation

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and Green Shoe Foundation would like to join the other voices in the community who are embracing the message that “Every Mind Matters”.  Our commitment towards helping create a society where mental health and wellbeing are supported, valued, and celebrated is a priority for Green Shoe.  Changing the stigma about seeking out mental health treatment is a fundamental priority and goal for our organization.

Having meaningful conversations with our friends, family, and communities about our mental health can facilitate someone reaching out for help.  Feeling like someone has your support and a listening ear can have a profound impact on their reaching out for help from a family member, friend, or professional. Creating a space for understanding and acceptance when someone feels seen and heard is an amazing gift you can give to others.

Prioritizing helping enable people, families, and communities, to value every individual for their innate worth is a noble and worthwhile mission. To help everyone know it is safe and healthy to ask for help starts with individuals, you and me, making a difference in our relationships at home, at work, and in our communities.

Can we encourage you to support this message in your daily interactions with family and friends and even in your community events?  Stopping the old message that it is not acceptable to talk about our emotional struggles or ask for help needs to become a priority.  It is going to take effort from everyone to accomplish this vital shift in belief about mental wellbeing is as important as other aspects of our wellbeing.

Together we ask you to join us this May and challenge the stigma about mental health and foster understanding and acceptance for every person. Every mind truly does matter.
